Watershed Protection Program

The Watershed Protection Program provides stormwater services to Storm Water Management Authority, Inc (SWMA). SWMA was formed as a cooperative agency to help the municipalities of Jefferson County comply with their National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Stormwater permit issued by Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM), and the United States Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Title 40 Code of Federal Regulations Part 122.

The NPDES permit regulates discharges from municipal separate storm sewer systems (MS4s) in order to protect water quality and people’s health.
