Dr. Jerome Adams is the 20th U.S. Surgeon
General, a member of the Bipartisan Policy Center’s opioid task force,
Indiana’s former State Health Commissioner, and a brother to someone with
substance use disorder. Dr. Adams grew up poor and Black in a Southern rural
community, and went on to become “America’s Doctor”, committed to fighting
issues that his own family and community experienced.
Lauren Sisler unexpectedly lost both
of her parents within hours of each other due to their concealed battle with
addiction. She now shares her story to help individuals who also feel trapped
by substance use disorder and the stigma that surrounds it.
