The Health Officer's Healthy School
Gold, Silver, and Bronze Awards of Excellence

The Health Officer’s Healthy School Awards of Excellence are the highest awards honoring the incredibly powerful role that our schools play as foundations for our communities. The goal of these awards is to acknowledge schools that recognize the influence they have on children's wellbeing and actively embrace opportunities for improving the nutrition, physical activity, safety and wellness of their students and staff. The Health Officers's Healthy School Seal of Approval winners are eligible to compete for the Gold, Silver, or Bronze Award of Excellence. Recipients for each award will be determined through a detailed, self assessment, based on Centers for Disease Control's School Health Index and U.S.Environmental Protection Agency's HealthySEAT Assessment criteria.

To be eliglible, each school must:
  • Win the Health Officer's Healthy School Seal of Approval Award for the current school year
  • Return the completed self-assessment checklist to the Health Officer's Healthy School committee by the appointed deadline
  • Provide documentation to verify self-assessment results upon re-inspection by the Health Officer's Healthy School Committee

The 2011 - 2012 Winners are:

Gold - John E. Bryan Elementary School
Silver - West Jefferson Elementary School
Bronze - Trace Crossings School
